The Complete 540 construction project is a multi-segmented highway project that links several communities around the greater Raleigh, North Carolina area. This session will describe best practices that were used to create a unified team on this complex project, including effective communication, flexible contract compliance, condensed schedules, limited budget, and multi-level client coordination.

Gannett Fleming, Flatiron, and Branch Civil collaborated for the design-build project segment, N.C. 55 in Apex to State Road 1152 in Holly Springs, which is approximately four miles. The team encountered many design challenges throughout this segment, including right-of-way acquisition and utility relocation, noise analysis and design for both urban and developed areas, detours, and early access to structure and culvert sites.

Director of Highway Operations Alan Shapiro, PE, NCTA, and Design-Build Coordinator Jason Moroz, Flatiron Construction, will serve as additional panelists.
