2023 USSD Annual Conference & Exhibition

Creating Better Dam Safety Solutions, Together.

In the pursuit of safer, more resilient infrastructure, Gannett Fleming is a leader in dam safety engineering and is ranked among the nation’s top design firms for dams and levees by Engineering News-Record. In addition to our dam safety engineering, we are experienced in helping public and private clients successfully adapt to growth and change. Our team brings an extensive portfolio of experience in licensing, environmental compliance, power delivery services, security and public safety, and asset management.

At the 2023 USSD Annual Conference and Exhibition, our experts will share their insights in two presentations on the seismic response spectrum of radial gate evaluations and emergency action planning. We also invite you to connect with us by visiting Gannett Fleming at booth #603.

See you there!

Determining Amplified Seismic Response Spectrum for Radial Gate Evaluations

Technical Session 2 – Seismic Analysis Considerations

The Priest Rapids Hydroelectric Dam, regulated by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), and owned and operated by the Grant County Public Utility District, is classified as a high-hazard structure. The dam features monoliths along its 1,152-foot-long spillway, which, due to their flexibility, can cause ground motion. Gannett Fleming analyzed the dam using a finite element model to establish the seismic response spectrum. This presentation will discuss the approach and methodology used to obtain the amplified response spectrum and evaluate the 40-feet wide by 52-feet high radial gates.

Fail Better: How to Write an Effective Exercise Scenario

Technical Session 4 – Emergency Preparedness

Developing and hosting a tabletop or functional exercise is a daunting task that dam owners face regularly. But solid exercise plans, accurate technical information, and comprehensive stakeholder inclusion can make scenario development more efficient and effective for all. This presentation provides actionable, step-by-step instructions on how to build a technically accurate and stakeholder-inclusive tabletop or functional exercise scenario.
