Creating Better Water Solutions, Together.

From Pennsylvania’s cities and suburbs to its boroughs and townships, we thrive on designing and building resilient, sustainable infrastructure to ensure clean, reliable drinking water for the Keystone State. Our team of water engineers and valuation and rate experts lead the way in solutions that help ready your community for tomorrow’s challenges today.

At PA-AWWA’s 75th Annual Conference in the Poconos, Gannett Fleming is bringing fresh perspectives and new ideas for water storage, treatment upgrades, distribution, project funding, and rate setting. Our forward-thinking team is eager to share their experiences with you as we work toward more reliable, resilient water infrastructure, together.

Read on to learn more about the five technical sessions our team will deliver at the conference.

Cultivating Success With the Implementation of New Processes at Existing Water Treatment Facilities

Wednesday, May 10 • 2 P.M.

As aging water treatment facilities replace obsolete equipment, new, state-of-the-art water treatment processes enable owners and operators to improve drinking water quality, safety, and reliability for customers. This presentation focuses on the key factors to consider when designing, permitting, constructing, and implementing the start-up of new process and chemical systems at existing water treatment facilities with minimal impacts on operations.

Successful Implementation of Emergency Interconnection for LCA

Wednesday, May 10 • 2:30 P.M.

To ensure a reliable water supply for its customers, the Lehigh County Authority (LCA) needed a solution to increase system redundancy, including close coordination with numerous stakeholders on an accelerated schedule. This presentation focuses on the practical and manageable approach to designing and constructing LCA’s emergency interconnection successfully.

1 Million Gallons of Drinking Water Storage Replacement for the Town of Middletown, Maryland

Thursday, May 11 • 9:30 A.M.

In 2017, the town of Middletown, Maryland, replaced its ground impoundment storage reservoirs. These reservoirs dated back to the 1890s and provided water to 5,000 residents. Constructed and online since early 2021, the town storage is now provided by a split-cell AWWA D-115 concrete tank, which sits in the footprint of the old reservoirs’ embankment. This presentation will delve into what it took to bring a 19th-century storage facility into the modern era, including capacity analysis, tank technology evaluation, and the use of 3D modeling and virtual reality for the as-built process.

Rate Structures and Single Tariff Pricing

Thursday, May 11 • 2 P.M.

Join Greg for a detailed discussion of rate structures, rate design, and single tariff pricing. He’ll discuss the pros and cons of various rate structures, including inclining blocks, declining blocks, usage allowances, minimum charges, customer charges, and flat rates. He will also explain the single tariff pricing rate consolidation concept and the benefits it can provide a utility.

IIJA Funding – What is Available for Water, Wastewater, and Stormwater Systems & How to Get It

Thursday, May 11 • 3 P.M.

There are an overwhelming number of components to the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) and the funding available through this legislation. This presentation will break down the components related to water, wastewater, and stormwater, including some of the more obscure funding opportunities. The session will include details on who is administering the funding, who is eligible, priorities of the budget, and the types of funding (grant/loan) available.
