Panelists will discuss the design and construction of bright, cheerful learning spaces for New York City’s youngest learners. Hear from Gannett Fleming’s Kayoko Karatsu, AIA, LEED AP BD+C, lead architect for the fast-track transformation of an 11,735-square-foot Dollar Tree retail store into a five-classroom 3-K center in the heart of the Bronx, as well as representatives from the New York City School Construction Authority (SCA) and other firms involved in the design and construction of 3K and Pre-K centers throughout the city.

With a solid background in architecture design both in the U.S. and Japan, Kayoko is currently the New York City Architecture Organization Manager for Gannett Fleming. In this capacity, she has managed teams and projects for numerous public sector entities. Most notable are her 15 years interfacing with the SCA.

Applying her knowledge to create positive learning environments, Kayoko works with all levels of SCA personnel on K-12 projects such as:

  • Interior renovations.
  • Room conversions.
  • Exterior modernizations.
  • Upgrades of public assembly spaces.
  • New school construction.
