A Culture of Innovation and Learning
Innovation has been a critical part of Gannett Fleming’s culture for more than 100 years. Over the past century, our firm has evolved and innovated. We have prioritized investing in new ideas to deliver better value to our clients.
“We cannot focus on being great at what we look like today; we need to focus on being great at what we must become.”
Bob Scaer, CEO
Innovation Comes from Our Employees
WE BELIEVE THAT BY INVESTING IN OUR EMPLOYEES' IDEAS AND GIVING THEM THE TOOLS, TRAINING, AND RESOURCES THEY NEED, OUR CLIENTS WILL BENEFIT AND SEE AMAZING, VALUABLE RESULTS.
Opportunity
In 2007, we created the Collaborative Research and Innovation Center (CRIC) to encourage and facilitate companywide innovation. The CRIC provides our employees with a forum to submit ideas and work with a team of experts to help them come to fruition. We support these innovative ideas with the necessary resources and mentors to help bring the new products and services to life for the diverse markets we serve.
Challenge
The annual Innovation Challenge, launched in 2017, encourages the brightest minds at Gannett Fleming to conceptualize the next big thing for the Fourth Industrial Revolution by utilizing the firm’s resources, ingenuity, and standing in the architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) industry. The winner of the Innovation Challenge receives a monetary award. But more importantly, they work with a team to develop a business plan to transform their idea into reality.
Recognition
The annual President’s Innovation Award recognizes innovative company initiatives that have been implemented during the previous year. Winners of this award have gone above and beyond, delivering value not previously seen. Winners regularly demonstrate their ability to increase efficiency, develop new opportunities, reduce costs, and uniquely create value for our clients.
Training
Launched in 2021, Innovation Jumpstart is a six-week program that helps Gannett Fleming employees to learn new tools for innovating and identify innovative ideas. Any employee in the firm can participate in the program as they work on ideas with teams and benefit from one-on-one coaching from their colleagues and the firm’s innovation mentors.
Excellence
Having a designated space for collaboration can help inspire innovation. Our first Center for Innovation Excellence is in our Richmond, Virginia, office and serves as a physical space for teams to conduct activities, collaborate with community partners, and provide visibility to the innovative accomplishments of our firm.
Coordination
Given the cross-disciplinary nature of innovation, Gannett Fleming prioritizes strategic plan coordination across business groups to identify and include innovation initiatives that will help achieve goals, engage employees, and provide value to our clients.
