Corporate Sustainability
At Gannett Fleming, we believe it is our responsibility to play an active role in sustaining our natural world. We take significant and lasting steps to minimize adverse environmental impacts in our activities and our designs. Being a better steward of the environment helps preserve our natural resources and provides social and economic benefits for future generations.
As part of our corporate commitment to being a sustainable firm, Gannett Fleming has several initiatives in place, including a robust recycling program, use of hybrid vehicles in the corporate fleet, and the establishment of a "sustainability committee." This committee meets regularly to discuss the progress of current sustainable initiatives and to discuss and implement new ideas.
Learn About our Green Roof
In August 2007, installation of a vegetated roof at our corporate headquarters in Harrisburg, Pa., was completed. This roof, designed by Gannett Fleming’s own Architectural Group, was installed on a converted plaza deck off of the East Building lobby.
This 1,400-square-foot, extensive vegetated roof has numerous environmental benefits. For example, "green" roofs reduce energy costs; reduce stormwater run-off; provide air and water purification; reduce urban heat island effects; protect underlying roof materials; and provide sound insulation.
The vegetated roof material was designed to withstand chemicals found in soil, as well as mildew and insects. In addition, the design ensures that needed water is retained, while excess water is allowed to drain.
