Local United Way Chapter Honors Gannett Fleming Fundraising Efforts
Jan. 23, 2012
(Harrisburg, Pa.) The United Way of the Capital Region honored Gannett Fleming on Jan. 10, 2012, with the Outstanding Campaign Team Award in the large companies category as part of its 2011 “Best of” Awards.
Gannett Fleming’s United Way Committee was chosen for its extraordinary efforts to raise money, which resulted in a 16 percent increase in giving during 2011. The variety of communications and special events were a success because of the committee’s innovative approach and dedication to the campaign. The firm raised $223,442 during its annual companywide campaign to support the United Way, which was held Sept. 15 through Oct. 21, 2011.
Special events at the firm’s corporate headquarters in Harrisburg, Pa., that supported the campaign included a kick-off breakfast with presentations by local United Way agencies, a sandwich sale fundraiser, a basket raffle featuring prizes donated by local merchants, a beach house getaway raffle featuring a one-week stay at a beachfront property in Maine, a cutest pet contest, and a bake sale. Offices around the country also held events to raise money for the campaign.
The “Best of” Awards was created to recognize the good work of individuals who are instrumental in the success of their company’s employee campaign. Honoring campaign coordinators, teams, and companies, the program celebrates the creativity demonstrated in the very best workplace campaigns. The United Way of the Capital Region’s Coordinator Council reviews all nominations and makes the final selections.
The Outstanding Campaign Team Award recognizes a campaign team that conducts an exceptional employee campaign, demonstrating excellent leadership, innovative ideas, admirable increases in employee participation and/or per employee giving, and follows the majority of recommended best practices.
As part of the awards banquet, Gannett Fleming also was recognized for its involvement in the United Way’s Pillar Society, which includes firms that raise more than $100,000 in each campaign, as well as being one of the companies who increased the amount it raised by at least $10,000.
