Gannett Fleming Named to PPL’s Honor Roll
Feb. 13, 2012
(Harrisburg, Pa.) PPL Electric Utilities, the power supplier to Gannett Fleming’s Harrisburg, Pa., offices, placed the firm on its E-power® Energy-Smart Business Honor Roll. The Honor Roll recognizes changes the firm made starting in 2009 to reduce energy consumption in its three Harrisburg office buildings.
Occupancy sensors were placed in offices, restrooms, and conference rooms. These sensors detect activity and automatically turn on lights when someone enters a room. They reduce lighting energy use by turning lights off soon after the last occupant has left the room.
Also, light bulb ballasts were upgraded for greater lamp efficiency. Changing the type of ballast from magnetic T12 to electronic T8 results in lower power consumption, lower life-cycle cost, and illumination that more closely resembles natural light. Electronic ballasts produce more light for each watt, run cooler, and last longer than magnetic ballasts.
Gannett Fleming also received a rebate for participating in PPL’s E-power Energy Efficiency Rebate Program. The program was created to help decrease the cost of companies’ investment in energy-efficient equipment, products, and appliances. Using energy-efficient products is a great way to achieve dramatic and long-term reductions in electricity use and electric bills.
These changes put into action the firm’s Environmental Sustainability Policy, which states that the firm will take significant and lasting steps to minimize adverse environmental impacts and to conserve natural resources in its activities and its projects.
