Vapor Intrusion Course Scheduled for May 6, 2010

April 16, 2010

Dr. Atul Salhotra, Ph.D.(Houston, Texas) Dr. Atul Salhotra, Ph.D., founding principal of the Risk Assessment and Management Group (RAM Group) of Gannett Fleming, Inc., is conducting a course titled Indoor Vapor Intrusion Pathway Science, Regulation, and Case Studies. The course will be held Thursday, May 6, 2010, at the Hilton Raleigh-Durham Airport in Durham, N.C., from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Attendees will achieve eight professional development hour units. Gannett Fleming is an international planning, design, and construction management firm.

This one-day Indoor Vapor Intrusion Pathways course is designed for industry, consulting, and regulatory agency professionals who must address the vapor intrusion pathway as part of site investigations; risk assessments; development and negotiation of soil and ground water clean-up levels. The curriculum includes a comprehensive review of technical, regulatory, and state-of-the-practice issues.

This course offers a balance between fundamental concepts, quantitative evaluation, and practical applications. Dr. Salhotra will present site-specific examples and case studies that will provide practical insights about the collection and evaluation of data and estimation of risk due to indoor vapor intrusion at sites impacted with volatile chemicals. Specific elements of the course include:

  • Factors that affect vapor migration from soil and groundwater to indoor air
  • Estimation of risk and risk-based screening levels for indoor air, soil, groundwater, and soil vapor concentrations
  • Scientific basis and assumptions underlying models used to estimate risk
  • Development of cost-effective site investigation work plans
  • Protocols for measuring soil vapor and indoor air concentrations
  • Evaluation of data to make risk management decisions related to the pathway
  • Strategies and technologies to manage the vapor intrusion pathway
  • U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and several state-specific guidelines for this pathway.

More than 700 past attendees have rated Dr. Salhotra's Vapor Intrusion Pathways course as "excellent." The course is limited to 20 attendees to ensure the highest value in learning. The fee is $395, or $415 if paying by credit card. On-site registration will be allowed only if space is available. Contact Samantha John via e-mail or (713) 784-5151 to reserve your space. For more information, contact Dr. Salhotra at (713) 784-5151 or via e-mail.
