Richards Recognized by AWWA for “Best Paper”

Gregory Richards, E.I.T.(Harrisburg, Pa.) A paper written by Gregory Richards, E.I.T., titled, "Metering Residential Irrigation Water: Technological Approaches and Cost Estimations," has been selected for the 2010 American Water Works Association (AWWA) Engineering & Construction Division "Best Paper" Award. Richards is a hydrologic and hydraulic designer in the firm’s Harrisburg, Pa., office.

This award annually recognizes the author or authors of exemplary papers from each AWWA division that were published in Journal AWWA in the previous year. Winning papers are selected for their significance of contribution to the water field, the subject importance, an improved knowledge by users, timeliness, and quality of content.

As senior author, Richards will receive an award plaque for the paper during the AWWA Annual Conference and Exposition in Chicago, Ill., in June 2010. This article was published in the June 2009 issue of Journal AWWA.

Richards wrote the paper as part of his master thesis research while attending Utah State University. Co-authors of the paper include Michael Johnson, P.E., Ph.D., and Steven Barfuss, P.E. Both are professors at the Utah Water Research Laboratory at Utah State University. This paper explores the feasibility and cost effectiveness of utilizing new methods, such as filtration and innovative metering technologies, for metering secondary water.
