Gannett Fleming Partners with Award-Winning Organization:
North Central Receives 2009 NADO Innovation Award
November 30, 2009
(Harrisburg, Pa.) The National Association of Development Organizations (NADO) honored the North Central (North Central) Pennsylvania Regional Planning and Development Commission with the 2009 Innovation Award. The award recognizes North Central's Land Use, Transportation, and Economic Development (LUTED) - Regional Action Strategy. Gannett Fleming, an international planning, design, and construction management firm, was responsible for studying and updating North Central's long-range transportation plan.
The plan's development included preparing a comprehensive strategy and supporting process to effectively link land use, transportation, and economic development for a six-county region in North Central Pennsylvania. At the highest level, it includes an overarching vision for North Central Pennsylvania, drawn in part from the area's existing plans and programs. The plan's vision and supporting directions were validated through stakeholder participation, as well as public engagement.
Gannett Fleming prioritized short-term and long-term improvement options and implemented a strong public involvement program that included public meetings and coordination between the member municipalities. Gannett Fleming also defined criteria used to guide and integrate North Central's diverse regional planning, programming, and project development activity; created a report that identifies state and local resource requirements necessary to implement the regional action strategy; and developed a short- and long-term action plan for implementation of the overall strategy.
