(New York, N.Y.) An asset management database created by Gannett Fleming Engineers and Architects, P.C. recently received a Gold Award in the American Council of Engineering Companies of New York’s (ACEC/NY) 2006 Engineering Excellence Awards Competition.
Gannett Fleming worked closely with Long Island Rail Road’s (LIRR) information technology group and maintenance staff to develop the asset management database. The implementation of this software solution enables LIRR to manage its equipment assets, plant maintenance, and capital budget proposals more effectively and maximize productivity.
Gannett Fleming was responsible for assessing 963 pieces of rolling stock support equipment at nine LIRR maintenance facilities and yards. The completed assessment provided the expected remaining life; the cost for major repair or overhaul at the end of expected life; replace vs. repair justification where appropriate; and replace-or-overhaul schedule for building the maintenance-of-equipment 20-year capital budget. This valuable data will allow LIRR to manage its equipment more efficiently over time.
