The Gannett Fleming Management Services (GFMS) team recently secured two traffic management center (TMC) contracts, totaling $12.5 million, for the New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT).
“Transportation departments throughout the nation rely upon the work of GFMS, and now we will help serve two million residents in and around Syracuse and Rochester,” said Eric Rensel, Gannett Fleming vice president. “TMCs are the nerve centers of transportation operations, providing interagency connectivity and up-to-the-minute updates for travelers.”
Under the new contracts, GFMS will provide TMC staffing and operations services for NYSDOT Regions 3 (Syracuse) and 4 (Rochester) by handling 24/7 incident management, data analysis and reporting, emergency transportation operations, work zone safety, and mobility services for citizens and travelers across the roads of New York. This critical coordination of real-time information will pass between travelers, first responders, and other regional stakeholders to bolster safety and efficiency.
GFMS’ nationwide TMC efforts fall on the shoulders of a strong leader, David Graham, vice president and national program manager for traffic operations. Graham has direct experience working for Virginia Department of Transportation, where he led a team of 165, including control room operators, safety service patrols, and ITS maintenance staff. He is a retired captain of the Newport News Police Department and served as a staff sergeant in the U.S. Air Force.
